My wife had Henna on her hand when she went for her FP. The officer asked her did not take her finger prints and asked her to send that letter to their office by mail for re-scheduling the appointment. She sent the letter and got another appointment within 40 days. No problems in the second appearance.

The option you suggested is best I know but what if I can not do so. (Option of going to canada and then taking up new job on EAD)

I know one can do a re instatment of h1b as long as the h1b is VALID. For example if an applicant's h1b expires in SEP 2011 and he/she joins a co. on EAD today 10th April 2008 but then gets fired on April 15 2009 or his/her GC is denied for w/e reason then he/she can go file for reinstatment of h1b but will have to leave USA and get stamping of h1b from Canda/mexico/home country........

not to trivialize the issue at discussion.......... I am sure this is important to you.

Dude, if you find it difficult to digest, then don't do it with your kid. Its that simple.
A debate on this is probably not warranted, as its subjective to every individual's situation.
And btw, both my kids live with me, but they travelled with someone else to spend their vacation at grand-parent's house, so I am not trying to oppose your viewpoint.

It is true that US is a far better country for immigrants - it is a lot easier to assimilate in here than anywhere else in the world. US not fixing its immigration system will only make the brightest stay in the home country!!

Same thing with me. My priority date May 3rd, 2006. I got EAD renewal email today.

Why do we need a transit visa if we are just passing by the airport( I know UK has this rule). Can someone please share if we really need the transit visa. I am travelling on next week to Chennai via Frankfurt.
If you have a valid (unexpired) US visa and traveling, to OR from US, to any country via Germany, then you DON'T need a transit Visa.
If you are traveling on AP, you need transit visa via Germany.

Nationals of the following countries are required to be in possession of an airport transit visa when passing through the international transit area of airports in Germany:

I think "augustus" worry is related to the application acceptance ...what if USCIS sends it back post August 17, 2007? One way to check that USCIS has accepted application is cheque clearance....well we are all in the same boat......Happy sailing!!

We did send lot of requests (letters) to Senate/House reps to include recapture and legal kids into dream act. But of no use. I think its simply waste of doing such campaigns.
i am not an expert on how campaigns should be run on Capitol Hill but was meeting some highly successful senior lobbyists today (on a completely different topic) and got a chance to take a close look at how they influence legislative activity and direction.......the big lesson i learnt is that while it is important to present a macro picture to lawmakers (how legal immigration is beneficial to US economy etc etc) - what often makes the difference between an actual favorable vote and a mere sympathetic reaction is whether we can demonstrate the positive impact of the legislative vote on each lawmaker's specific reelection probability and popularity in their district:
1. showing benefit to their particular constituents (e.g your district has XX legal immigrants who constitute XX% of the tax base and if they got GCs - say, 10% would start companies in their communities and create say, 1000 new jobs within 2 years)
2. localized polling results (e.g. XX% of your voters support timely GCs to legal immigrants)
