Do I need an EAD for this
you need to use EAD since you were on L1 and that cant be transferred to your new employer.
Other than that you need:
- I-140 to be approved*
- 180 dyas to pass from your I-485 receipt date.
*strictly speaking if I-140 was "approvable" at that 180 day mark, you are all set, but its safest to wait for it to be approved.

Can a Canadian Citizen work in the USA without a visa ? How easy is that ?
If you are going to stay 2 yrs in Canada, you might as well spend 1 more yr and become a Canadian citizen.
I actually have a similar question. I am in the exact same situation. The question is that in this case if you have an H1 stamped in your passport, is it ok to travel to US on that H1 ? or would you need a B2 tourist visa to travel ?
I am asking since technically you are employed by same employer but you are getting paid by Candian payroll not US Payroll.

my wife H4 was denied since it was applied after 2 months of I 94 expiration (july 1,2010)but we also sent the I 94 correction based on my H1B notice untill March 10,2011 since there was mistake at POE in jan 2010. On March 18 we received I 94 correction until March 10,2011. Hence now actual out of status is from march 10,2011. So we decided for her to go to India for stamping. But we also filed for MTR still my attorney adviced us to go to India for stamping since we don't want to cross the 180 day period.

As far as I know, H4's are allowed to do 'voluntary non-paying work' in the US and are not allowed to compete for jobs in the US. In my opinion, if you are working for an indian company and getting paid in Indian currency without hurting the US job market, it should be OK. An excellent point was made earlier about home maintenance activities and baby care activities that are also part of broader terminology of 'work' and 'job'.

Its very simple, they are anti-immigrant channels, dont you know lou dobbs, o'rielly anti-immigrant shows have more ratings, so there is no way they want their viewer change their mind on immigration system. they are surviving on anti-immigrant programs.

Hi,
Is it legal to come here and work while waiting for an L1 visa. This person(not myself) arrived on an I-94 Visa waiver with full knowledge, worked during that week while waiting for their L1A non-immigrant application to be approved(week later). Please advise. What are the ramifications of this once its passed or immigration finds out?

I've just got all the info for setting up conference call and meeting with the lawmakers "info" kit.

Most of us might not be working for contractors / body shoppers like this but it is definitely for our own good to investigate these incidents in detail. We have to somehow find out the grounds on which these individuals were deported.
If these are the result of FEAR or "imagining" that their entry will result in US job losses then it is "utter ludicrous and idiotic". In fact the opposite is true. The pseudorecovery that we are seeing now is not genuine. The basic thing that has to happen is reduction of wages and increased availability of qualified people here.
Again we have a saying in "malu", "There is no point in chanting vedas into the ear of a buffalo that is taken to be slaughtered". If only they realize that admitting more qualified people will stabilize the wages and prevent offshoring.
I am upset not at these deportation but at the "idiotic" thought behind them; "keep them out and we can have more jobs and better pay"
