Something like thirty Republican representatives

in Congress have announced their retirement and

are now what Americans call 'lame ducks'.

(In China, they are called 'dried ducks'.)

President Nicolas Sarkozy of France was greeted with

cheers and standing ovations today, a sign that France

was forgiven for being wise in opposing the American-led

war in Iraq.

According to the latest poll, the approval rating for the

Congress of the United States is down to 11%. Does this

mean our system of government is no longer a representative

democracy? Has it become a misrepresentative democracy?

An unrepresentative democracy? Or, perhaps, has it become

something other than a democracy altogether?

If these congressmen, all under federal investigation,

truly 'represent' their constituents, then our nation

is in more trouble than we thought.
